Harrison Ford’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens leather jacket up for auction

The leather jacket worn by Harrison Ford in Star Wars: The Force Awakens is up for sale on the charity auction site If Only.

“Han Solo returned to the Star Wars universe in ‘The Force Awakens’ last December, appearing every bit the scoundrel that fans know and love,” said a spokesperson from If Only.

“Very rarely do such iconic items — and one worn by such a beloved character and celebrated actor — come up for auction. This jacket is even more significant as Harrison wore it in his final appearance in a ‘Star Wars’ film. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a very special piece of cinematic history.”

The jacket, donated by Ford himself, will be sold to raise funds for the NYU Langone Medical Center’s FACES (Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures) department. The cause is close to the actor’s heart, and he recently spoke to Today about his daughter’s struggle with epilepsy and seizures:

“When you have a loved one who suffers from this disease, it can be devastating. You know how it affects their lives, their future, their opportunities and you want desperately to find mitigation. You want to find a way that they can live a comfortable and effective life.”

As of writing, bidding has already surpassed $30,000 and looks set to soar far higher, if previous sales are anything to go by.

A recent study shows that Star Wars memorabilia is by far the most sought-after movie memorabilia for collectors, with prices often reaching six figures for iconic items.

Back in 2013, the blaster used by Ford in both ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’ hit the auction block at Profiles in History, where it sold for $246,000.

The auction is set to conclude on April 11.
