Donald Trump’s personalized golf clubs sell for $30,000

A set of engraved golf clubs once owned by Donald Trump has sold in an online auction for almost $30,000.
The clubs were amongst the top lots in a sale of historic memorabilia and autographs hosted by the Boston-based company RR Auction.

Trump gifted the clubs to Andrew Lombardo, who served as his caddie for several years at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

In a letter of provenance, Lombardo stated that the clubs had been presented to Trump by TaylorMade CEO Mark King, and recalled how he acquired them in 2004:

"The clubs were put in our bag room for the winter and next season Mr. Trump had a new set of clubs from TaylorMade. I knew the first set of irons were special and so beautiful, they were the only set of forged blades, the first set that TaylorMade gave to Mr. Trump and the only set that had (D. Trump) engraved on them…I waited for the right moment to ask Mr. Trump for the clubs, I personally asked Mr. Trump and he told me to ask the head pro (Mickie Gallagher), which I did and he said yes."

The set of TaylorMade RAC TP ForgedIrons fetched a final price of $29,780.

"Supported by their rock solid provenance, these Trump-used irons are of the utmost rarity and represent the well-documented relationship between the sport of golf and the nation’s commander-in-chief," said the auction house.

The RR Auction sale featured historic political memorabilia reaching back from the current president to the Founding Fathers.

Further highlights included a manuscript written by Benjamin Franklin which sold for $39,340; and a rare bank cheque signed by John Hancock, which sold for $28,550;

The sale’s top lots were two original Civil War-era amputation kits, used on the battlefield by Dr John Warren, the celebrated founder of Harvard Medical School.

Featuring grizzly implements including bone saws and bullet forceps, the two sets had spent years in the Harvard archives, and sold together for $104,150 (including buyer’s premium).
