Star Lord’s helmet from Guardians of the Galaxy has sold for an out-of-this-world price at auction in the U.K.
The prop helmet, which was worn on-screen in the blockbuster 2014 movie by Chris Pratt, sold for $181,170 (£134,200).
It has initially been expected to sell for around $40,000 – $65,000.
The helmet is one of the most instantly recognizable Marvel movie props to appear at auction in years, and had been given away as a competition prize back in 2015.
The second famous prop up for grabs from the Marvel movie series was the mythical magic hammer Mjolnir, as wielded by Chris Hemsworth in the 2011 film Thor.
Made from rigid foam rubber – rather than forged by Dwarven blacksmiths – the prop hammer is one of the most iconic superhero movie weapons of all-time.
The hammer had previously sold at auction in 2012 for $23,370, but this time achieved $98,018 (£73,200) – marking a 319% increase in value over the past five years.
The sale also featured several other notable props from the Marvel movie universe, including the helmet and cloak worn by Ian McKellen as Magneto in X-Men, which sold for $65,500 (£48,800); and the torso of the Iron Monger suit from Iron Man, which sold for $27,800 (£20,740).
The current record price for memorabilia from a Marvel movie was set in 2012, when Chris Evans’ suit and shield from Captain America: The First Avenger sold at Profiles in History for $233,700.
