Morphy Auctions to sell Palm Beach collection of fine art and antiques


Mophy Auctions are set to offer more than 1,300 lots of fine artwork, antiques, furniture, decorative arts and jewelry from a "comprehensive and exceedingly well-curated" Palm Beach collection.
The sale is led by more than 150 fine European and American paintings dating from the 17th to the 20th century, with work by artists such as Leon Bakst, Paulette Van Roekens, Vaclav Vytlacil, B.J.O. Nordfeldt, Martha Walter, John Grabach, John Sloan, and Ralph Fasanella.

Leading highlights from the art section will include Martha Walter’s 1925 work Goat Market, estimated at $30,000-$50,000; the John R. Grabach maritime painting Preparing to Sail, also valued at $30,000-$50,000; Ralph Fasanella’s 1947 baseball scene City Lot Game, estimated at $20,000-$30,000; and B.J.O. Nordfeldt’s The Wedding Party, also valued at $20,000-$30,000.

Standout lots from the furniture and decorative arts section include a circa 1650 Spanish Treasure Chest with an elaborate locking mechanism estimated at $4,000-$6,000; a pair of 19th century Ebonized Wood Carvings of Men Kneeling, estimated at $4,000-$8,000; a pair of 19th century Carved Wooden Eagle Tables, estimated at $5,000-$10,000.

The collection also features almost 300 lots of fine and antique jewelry and watches, by makers including Tiffany, Cartier, Judith Ripka, Kieselstein Cord, Patek Philippe, Rolex Mauboussin and Ebel.

Leading items from this section include a 6ct Diamond & Sapphire Platinum Pin estimated at $4,000-$6,000; a 2.46 ct. G-I2 Marquise Brilliant Diamond valued at $4,000-$8,000; a 3.25 ct. Diamond & Sapphire Pendant estimated at $4,000-$6,000; a 2 ct. Diamond 3 Stone Ring priced at $3,000-$6,000; and an 18k Patek Philippe Yellow Gold Watch estimated at $3,000-$6,000.
