Silverstone Auctions has prepared a truly international line up for its final sale of 2016 at the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham.
Leading the charge of left-hand drive models is an iconic 1981 Lamborghini Countach LP400 S. One of only 105 ever produced, the Series II has been restored to its original specification and comes with an estimate of between £350,000 and £400,000.
Then there’s a "world class" 1957 Porsche Speedster with coachwork by Reutter, estimated at £280,000 and £320,000. The matching-numbers example comes to the UK after a lifetime in Colorado, and is described as "a simple and pure expression of the classic sports car, a delight to both drive and to admire."
Further notable lots include a 1988 Ferrari Testarossa, finished in the rarely ordered double black with gleaming Nero coachwork and estimated at £75,000 to £85,000; and a special 1964 Chevrolet Corvette ‘Sting Ray’ C2 Coupé, purchased new by senior vice president of Gulf Oil Corporation, Grady Davis, estimated at between £55,000 and £65,000.
Also up for grabs are a pair of German Group A touring car legends from long-standing rivals BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
First is a limited edition 1990 BMW E30 M3 Sport Evolution (Evo III), one of 600 examples built
The matching-numbers car includes upgrades such as lowered springs, adjustable anti-roll bars, heated racing door mirrors and a rear panel, and comes with just 65,002 miles from new. Having remained in the careful ownership of a BMW Car Club member since 2002, the car is now expected to fetch between £95,000 and £115,000.
The second is a 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II, number 28 of a limited run of just 500 examples. Offered in remarkably original condition, including the original Mercedes-Benz factory stickers in the windscreen, the car has just 25,500 miles on the clock and an estimate of between £100,000 and £115,000.
"These are two very sought after homologation cars and to have them both available at one of our auctions is a real treat and a very rare opportunity for buyers," said Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions.
"Any fan of the legendary Group A Touring Car can appreciate these two legends, and a lucky two could be the new owners of these low mileage examples, both with superb collector status."
