World’s rarest white diamond to fetch millions at Sotheby’s

Sotheby’s Diamonds, a new boutique from the prestigious auction house, has announced its flagship item – a flawless round cut 102.3 carat stone.
This is the only diamond of its type, the largest flawless D Colour stone in the world.

Generally 100+ carat stones lack the internal clarity of smaller specimens.

This one was unearthed in Botswana by De Beers and painstakingly hand cut over a period of six months.

Patti Wong, founder and chairman of Sotheby’s Diamonds, said: “This stone is over 100 carats of flawless perfection.

“In the course of my long career, which has brought me close to some of the greatest stones the earth has ever yielded, I have not encountered anything quite like this.

“With its outstanding weight, its perfect colour, clarity and cut, it is a masterpiece of nature brought to life by human hand, blazing with a brilliant firework-like display of almost every colour on the spectrum – mesmerising to behold.

“It is a huge privilege to mark the first anniversary of our London salon with the exhibition of such a superlative stone.”

There’s no price for the stone but it’s safe to presume that if you have to ask, you can’t afford it.

The record for a diamond stands at $71.2m, set for the 59.6 Pink Star in 2017.

It would be safe to assume that this latest addition is worth considerably more.
