Vermeer's lost works: the rarest fine art paintings collectors are still hunting for

Vermeer’s lost works: the rarest fine art paintings collectors are still hunting for

Only thirty-four paintings by Johannes Vermeer are universally accepted today, down from the seventy or so once credited to him. Some vanished into stolen goods, most famously The Concert, still missing since the 1990 Gardner Museum heist. Others exist only as descriptions in a 1696 sale catalogue. This guide traces what is documented about each one, and what it would take for any to resurface.
