One of what may be just six examples of Prince William’s signature is for sale with a British collectibles company.

Paul Fraser Collectibles say that only five signatures from the Prince have ever been sold.

“That is a shockingly low number,” says Paul Fraser Collectibles chairman, Paul Fraser. “To compare, those of Charles, Diana, and the Queen run into the hundreds.”

He found the signature earlier this year, calling it “the rarest signature from the Royal Family.”

Although the British Royals are celebrities they are under strict instructions not to sign autographs.

There are security concerns about royal signatures (which can have official uses) hitting the open market. And, demand would be overwhelming.

The QEII is closely associated with the Royal Family, but the exact circumstances of William’s visit to the ship in 1996 aren’t known.

However, they do occasionally sign things. And documents like letters, personal papers and Christmas cards can hit the market.

But all modern Royal signatures are rare.

Mr Fraser believes that William’s signature is particularly rare for highly personal reasons.

“He hates signing his name,” he said. “Handwriting experts looking at William’s almost unreadable signature say it reveals a highly private figure.”

Only Kate signs the couple’s Christmas cards.

The signature for sale was signed in 1996 by a 14-year-old prince.

Mr Fraser says: “William’s signature here is poignant. Heart-breaking. And a testament to the fine man he has become, despite the tragedy he has endured.”

It is on letterheaded paper from the Cunard liner, Queen Elizabeth II. His mother, Diana, was still alive.

Although the circumstances of the autograph’s signing are mysterious, it has been authenticated by Paul Fraser Collectibles, and they say they expect it to rise steeply in value.

Prince William is slated to become King William V.

His father’s signature rose in price by 400% when he ascended the throne.

And the incredible rarity of William autographs has already seen a 90% per-annum increase in their value since 2000.

Paul Fraser Collectibles is the world’s largest dealer in rare collectibles. The company has handled the sale of four of the six Prince William signatures.

The item is listed on their website now.
