Two would-be buyers from opposite ends of the world pushed the price of a 2006 Queen-owned Range Rover to £175,000.

That’s a record for the model say the sellers, more than three times its low estimate, and around 10-times what could be expected for the model without the royal connection.

The vehicle, owned and used by Queen Elizabeth II, was set to find a new home in either the Caribbean or Japan say sellers Iconic Auctioneers.

They listed the L322 Range Rover Supercharged with a Jaguar-derived 4.2-litre supercharged V8 engine with an estimate of £50,000 to £70,000.

In the end two bidders sent the hammer price up to £156,000, rising to £175,500 with fees.

The vehicle, in Tonga Green, the Royal household’s trademark shade, was secured by the Caribbean buyer.

Built for a queen, the car is luxurious, with an Oxford Sand leather interior and trim of burr walnut. But it’s also hard working, as befits a vehicle used by one of the UK’s most famous corgi owners, with a bespoke dog guard to match the monarch’s own unique silver labrador mascot.

Queen Elizabeth II owned and used the Range Rover between 2006 and 2008. It has around 120,000 miles on the clock.

Normally, a comparable vehicle of this age would be listed at around £16,000.

Iconic said: “[it was a] great honour and absolute privilege to be able to offer this car, which has such a fascinating history and provenance.”

Land Rovers and Range Rovers are closely associated with both the British military and the Royal Family.

They’re a luxury product these days, and far from cheap out of the showroom. A strong collecting community drives an excellent market for pre-owned and special models.

The 2 millionth Range Rover produced made £400,000 at a charity auction in 2015.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Defender was auctioned in 2023, making £125,000. And earlier this year, another Defender used by the King when he was Prince Charles, made £60,000.

The Queen’s car is just the latest, but won’t be the last Royal utility vehicle to sell for good money.
