You could own a key component of the climactic moment of the first Star Wars film if you have £600,000.
The Medal of Yavin was presented to Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill) and Han Solo (Harrison Ford) by Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) in the final scene of Star Wars (now called Star Wars: A New Hope).
The scene confirms the movie’s happy ending: the Death Star has been destroyed, the heroes are all gathered together, and a huge crowd of Rebels confirm that the war against the Empire will go on.
The actual item is perhaps less impressive than its on-screen appearance suggested.
Made from cast resign and finished with gold leaf, the Medal of Yavin is now being sold by Prop Store auctions at their auction that ends on March 26.

Seen close up, the medal is not particularly ornate. Image courtesy of Prop Store.
It comes from the collection of Gerard Bourke, an Irish prop master who helped craft the Galaxy Far Away at Elstree Studios near London.
The medal has been screen-matched against the film and comes with its original strap. It is the honour given to Luke Skywalker. Han Solo’s medal is already off the market (though the two actors seem to have swapped the medals around off screen during shooting).
Prop Store says: “This and Harrison Ford’s medal, held in a private collection, are the only two examples of this prop known to exist and presumably the only two made for the film. This is the first and only medal to be offered for public sale.
“Luke Skywalker’s throne room ceremony medal is an incredibly significant Star Wars prop. Presented in the climactic scene and among the very final images in the seminal original film, the medal is a memorable piece of cinema history and its image is well-known to Star Wars fans across the globe.”
You won’t need to blow up a Death Star to get your hands on this honour, but Prop Store are forecasting a sale price of between $300,000 and $600,000.
Star Wars is perhaps the most collectible film sequence in history, and records keep tumbling.
The most valuable prop sold thus far is a model X-Wing that made $3.1 million in 2024.
Scarcely less valuable are some toys made for fans of the series. A prototype of an= withdrawn action figure of the Boba Fett character realised $1.34 million last year.
Prop Store’s March sale will also feature a crossbow like weapon used by the character Chewbacca that carries a $500,000 top estimate.
